AKDAG, F. and O. H. MUGLALI, 2008. The influence of different weaning methods on piglet growth performance in commercial herd in Turkey. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 14: 335-340 This study was carried out to determine the effects of different weaning methods on survival, growth performance and live weight gain of piglets from 84 piglets divided into three groups as control and two treatment group. In the control, piglets were suckled on mother; treatment group 1 was fed in pelleted form and suckled; treatment group 2 was fed only in pelleted form until weaning age. A significant difference (P<0.05) was observed in survival rates among the groups from the 21st day to 35th day of age. Average daily weight gain and feed efficiency (except for the first week) of the piglets in the treatment group one were higher (P<0.01) than that of the other groups. The results obtained in the experiment showed that feeding of piglets with pellet and mother milk till the time of weaning age has positive effect on survival rate, growth performance and live weight gain.

Piglet behavior as a measure of vitality and its influence on piglet survival and growth during lactation.
The aim of the study was to develop a vitality scoring method, based on piglet behavior and relate it to piglet growth and survival. From 21 sows (Sus scrofa), 287 piglets were used. After farrowing (d 0), piglets were weighed and tested for 4 behavioral parameters in a circular enclosure (55 cm diam.): movement capacity (M), udder stimulation (U), number of completed circles around the enclosu...
متن کاملThe effect of double nursing, an alternative nursing strategy for the hyper-prolific sow herd, on herd performance
BACKGROUND Hyper-prolific sows produce more piglets than they can suckle, as the number of milk producing teats of the sow is lower (twelve to sixteen) than the number of live born piglets per litter. Farmers and farm workers are struggling to feed this surplus of piglets. To minimize suckling piglet mortality, litter size at 24 hours after parturition should not exceed the number of functional...

The present study was performed to study the effect of inbreeding on the pre-weaning growth traits including the birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW), average daily gain (ADG), Kleiber ratio (KR) and lamb survival from birth to weaning (SUR) in Baluchi, Iran-Black and Zandi sheep. Significant positive inbreeding trends were found only for Baluchi and Iran-Black breeds as 0.038 and 0.278, resp...
متن کاملAn epidemiological investigation into the association between biomarkers and growth performance in nursery pigs
BACKGROUND Biomarkers are useful tools in research and clinical practice where they are often used to detect and monitor differences in the physiological state of an animal. The proteins IGF-1, IGFBP-3, GHR, CRP, SAA, Hp, IFN-α, IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, and IL-18 have been proposed as potential biomarkers for monitoring growth in livestock. The objective of this study was to determine ...

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different early weaning programs on growth performance and blood parameters of dairy calves. To meet this objective, thirty Holstein calves with initial body weight of 36 ± 5 kg were randomly assigned at birth to one of the three weaning programs. Experimental groups were: 1) starter diet and whole milk from birth to 6 weeks and wean...
